Way back in my 20s, (long before I came across Science of Mind or positive thinking) I was working for a specialist agency in London. I was repeatedly invited back to firms I’d worked with before, often on long assignments.
On one of these assignments, I started to develop a niggle in the nose and throat, and knew something was doing the rounds laying people off left, right and centre. But I knew I couldn’t afford to be ill.
It just so happened someone in the same office as me came in late that morning with an early edition of the London Evening Standard. It had a snippet in about Ginger Rogers, who was then appearing in Mame in the West End, reporting an incident the previous day and how she had never missed a day’s performance despite many around her falling by the wayside with the prevalent lurgey.
Ms Rogers had apparently arrived at the theatre the previous day with the symptoms of the flu. He management had endeavoured to reassure her they would arrange for her understudy to go on in her place so she could go home, rest and recuperate. Ms Rogers was adamant that would not happen, that the management were to merely leave her alone undisturbed for half-an-hour and she would be fine.
Whereupon Ms Rogers locked herself in her dressing-room. Re-appearing after half-an-hour, she was free of all symptoms and went on to give one of the best performances of the whole run.
When asked what she had done or taken, she divulged she had merely gone into my dynamic prayer stance of denying the existence of anything like illness – claiming she as a child of he Creator that was the origin of all health and wellbeing and, as part of creation, she was part of that perfect health. It gurned out that Ginger Rogers was a life-long Christian Scientist.
Reading that snippet, I decided I had nothing to lose in trying her approach, as a means of avoiding succumbing to the threatening symptoms, and put my mind to it during the lunch-break. On my colleague’s return, she was amazed all hint of my becoming unwell had vanished.
Ever after, whenever I began any symptoms, I employed the Ginger Rogers formula so well, my family recognised if I was feeling unwell that it would last less than a day, that it was unusual for hat to go into a second day and, if it went into a third, would want me to see a doctor. I can count on one hand occasions where symptoms lasted longer, but each of those times was associated with some sort of crisis, life-transformation or re-direction.
There is a maxim that, when feeling below par, do not try doing spiritual mid treatments or visualisation. Those are times when we need external help like a practitioner or minister to identify us as an expression of the required aspect of divine perfection on our behalf. Once the mental or emotional fog begins to clear, we can re-direct our thought processes into feeling gratitude – even if only for the smallest things, like someone volunteering to brig a cuppa … a warm room when needed … electricity to power listening to something uplifting … Stop for just a moment and think of all the elements of your daily life you have used unconsciously today.
Why was I reminded of the Ginger Rogers (GR) formula today?
Where I’m currently staying, everyone else has the lurgey for weeks. I may have had the odd sniffle, but nothing more. At such times I use a version of the GR formula:
I am an expression of Infinite Creation, the Source of all Health and Wellbeing. There is nothing outside of that! Anything unlike that is a temporary illusion that I do not allow to take up residence in any part of my being. I choose to emanate radiant health and wellbeing, with plentiful abundance of all I require to support that in all aspects of my life, now and always.
What else is going on in your life right now that appears to be contrary to being in the flow of Infinite’s Love and Bounty?
Whatever that it, know (with that deep inner knowing and acceptance) that challenge is, is only a temporary illusion, that the truth of your being is all the blessings and abundance of good that Loving Intelligent Creative True Source of which you are a wonderful glowing expression.
No matter what may have been my past experience, I know and accept I am in the right place with the right people around me for this time. I am grateful for the new learnings and understandings opening up for me, enriching every aspect of my life, deeply knowing I am cared for, nurtured, supported and supplied with all I require for now and always. How lucky am I!
Whatever the temporary appearances of challenge, I am continuously guided on my right path to being a greater expression of the Infinite perfect being, knowing all my requirements for a happy, healthy, vibrant live are being provided and fulfilled. No matter what may appear to be happening in the outer world, I can recognise the Divine Spark in all beings; loving that, I can call It into greater expression for the good of all, the harmony and compassion of all, the greater prosperity and awareness of all.
Anywhere anything unlike this Infinite Good temporarily appears, I practice the Ho’oponopono to clear that reflection in me, thankful for the opportunity to do so and to restore the free flow of Universal Love in and through me, enriching and enhancing my life’s expression. I am so grateful for all the beings that have contributed to my understandings, the ease and joy of my beingness, their contributions to my journey.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
