Introduction

Our world is constantly changing, and we’ve been told we have to put up with it. Some people, however, have discovered tools that make it possible to thrive—be healthy, build strong relationships, and achieve success—no matter what’s going on around us. In this series, we explore those tools and how to apply them to your life.

Part Four: New Mental Framework; New Life

In As We Think, So We Are, James Allen, who grew up working in a factory without any formal schooling and went on to become an internationally honored teacher, outlines three phases for creating a new mental framework:

  1. See the people involved in a new way.

  2. See ourselves in a new way.

  3. Hold a different intention for the life ahead

And that leads to the question: How can I see myself and others in a different way?

Phase 1: Discovering Your Mental Framework

In Part One of this series, we explored how to uncover what we truly believe—what our mental framework has been up until now. It’s important to understand these underlying beliefs before we can begin to shift them.

Phase 2: Releasing Past Experiences

In Part Two, we focused on releasing the past experiences that have shaped our beliefs. By letting go of these past upsets, we create space for a new, empowering mindset.

Phase 3: Declaring Your New Intention for Life

Now, it’s time to declare a new intention for your life. Up to this point, your life may have been shaped by the upsets you’ve held against yourself and others. But today, you’re creating a new pattern—a new path forward.

This new intention comes from deep within. It’s not based on what others call success or what people say you could/should be. Instead, it’s grounded in the understanding you gain as you release those past upsets.

Your new intention could be about relationships, work, or even how you choose to experience life.

Sample New Intentions

  • For Relationships:In my life, everyone is helpful and loving. No matter what life brings, the love we’ve shared continues.

  • For Your Work or Self-Expression:I am fully supported to be and do what truly fulfills me because I am a unique contribution in this world.

  • For Personal Growth:I let go of the past and move forward with ease.Free from the burden of the past, I am a powerful force for good in the world.

Reminders and Affirmations

Whatever intention you choose, it serves as a reminder—an affirmation of what you’ve decided. These words will help you focus on living this new way, regardless of what’s happening around you—whether it’s the people in your life, the government, or the economy.

You won’t always be able to live up to this new intention immediately. But when you realize you’re dwelling on past upsets, go back to the process of releasing them (as described in Part Two). It will get easier and faster each time you do it, until you no longer need it and can live freely.

Conclusion

Changing your mental framework isn’t an overnight process, but it’s a powerful tool for transforming your life. By declaring a new intention—one that reflects your true values and desires—you can step into a future that’s guided by positivity, empowerment, and freedom.
