Menopause causes all sorts of hormonal shifts that completely change how our bodies manage things like fat storage, cravings, digestion, and energy.

 

It’s not just about eating less and exercising more anymore.

 

When oestrogen drops your body adapts in a series of ways to cope such as: 

  • It slows down your metabolism.

  • Insulin resistance occurs to try and create fat stores from the glucose you eat, because your body now wants to store fat differently - often right around your middle - because fat cells create oestrogen that our body wants to utilise.

  • And we become more sensitive to stress which means the body more easily releases cortisol which causes your body to release blood sugars into your bloodstream in anticipation of the fight or flight response and thus more insulin is released and our body then stores the excess blood sugar away as fat cells. And the cycle continues. 

  • Your appetite hormones get thrown off, cravings go up (especially for sugar and carbs)


No wonder you're feeling frustrated and confused!


Your body is now functioning completely differently metabolically to the way it used to before you went through menopause.
